Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 9

Day 9: Book that makes you sick

A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer

I read this book in 7th or 8th grade. It made my stomach churn while I read it and I just…ah. I still remember how I felt while reading it. I wanted to stop reading it but I also wanted to see what happened, to see if there was a happy ending. There really wasn’t, which made me read his other books to find out what happened. I know there has been controversy about the books but it still stuck with me and made an impact on me.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 8

Day 8: Book that scares you

Errr….I honestly have no idea. I don’t really read scary books. I guess it would be…

The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney

It really creeped me out when I read it and continued to read the rest of the series. I wouldn’t say that it scared me, per say, but it weirded me out.

30 Book Challenge - Day 7

Totally forgot about this. Time to pick up where I left off.

Day 7: Book that you can quote/recite

Okay, technically, this is a play and not a book but I can quote a decent amount of Macbeth by Shakespeare.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 6

Since I forgot to do it for a few days, I’ll just start where I left off.

___

Day 06: A book that makes me sad

Fatelessness - IrmeKertész

This book is about a Jewish boy named Gyuri, who grows up in Hungary during WWII. He  gets sent to a concentration camp after receiving work orders and is separated from his family. The rest of the book is him trying to survive in the camp. It’s a great book about his struggle to survive. It is also part-memoir from the author. It’s very well-written and I highly recommend it.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 5

Day 5: Book you wish you could live in

Little House on the Prairie (series) - Laura Ingalls Wilder

I loved these books. I read them before my “grade level” was supposed to (awesome reader, ftw) and fell in love with them. I loved the atmosphere of the books and the way Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote. I loved it so much that I wanted to live with her. To this day, when asked what time period I could live in besides this one, I always say “1800s with Laura Ingalls Wilder.” Even though times were harder back then…I don’t know. I just find it so fascinating and it seems like it would be an amazing time to live in.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 4

Day 4: Book that makes you cry

Where The Red Fern Grows - Wilson Rawls

I read this book in sixth grade for a “reading circle” group. We were split into groups to read 5 different books and my group was assigned to read this book. I was super excited because it was about dogs and I love animals, so of course I thought this book was going to be awesome. It was awesome - I loved it. Of course, being the reader that I am, I decided to read ahead one day. I read the climax (not going to spoil it for those who haven’t read it) and started sobbing in the middle of silent reading. My teacher realized that I read ahead and made me go to the bathroom to calm down. It was so sad and every time I read it, I still cry. It’s one of my favorite books and I really enjoy it, even though it really is sad near the ending.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 3

Day 3: Book that makes you laugh out loud

Junie B. Jones series - Barbara Park

Okay, so I don’t read these books anymore but I remember when I was little, I used to crack up when I read them. The way Barbara Park wrote was awesome and she really made Junie come alive in the books. I laughed out loud reading almost every page. It just brings back great childhood memories as well.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 2

Day 2: Least favorite book

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

While I know this is a classic and I ~should~ like it…I just couldn’t get into it. The way Gatsby talked pissed me off - I thought he was like, 60 until half-way through the book when I realized he was Nick’s age. And the whole story line just…ugh. It was so boring. I liked Fitzgerald’s writing style, kind of, but the story was just so boring.

Thirty Day Book Challenge - Day 1

Day 1: Favorite book

The Truth About Forever
by Sarah Dessen. I know it’s a YA novel and I should have a favorite book that is more “my level” but fuck it. This book is amazing. Sarah Dessen writes well and really gets me interested in the characters. I read this book in my freshman year of high school and I’ve read it at least a dozen times since them. The main character really sticks with me because she, too, lost her father unexpectedly and that resonates with me because I have a lot of the same thoughts that the MC had.
